Who needs a flu shot?
Influenza  outbreaks usually don't start until December or January but people at risk should consider getting the flu vaccine now. It typically takes two weeks after vaccination to build up immunity to influenza, but those at risk should get the vaccine now to protect themselves against early outbreaks. The flu vaccine will protect those immunized for up to one year.
Flu shots are recommended for the following groups of people:

* persons aged >50 years

* adults and children >6 months of age who have chronic heart or lung conditions, including asthma; metabolic diseases (like diabetes), chronic kidney disease, or weakened immune system (including immune system problems caused by medicine or by infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS);

*children and teenagers (aged 6 months to 18 years) who are on long-term aspirin therapy

*woman who will be more than 3 months pregnant during the flu season

Contact your family doctor or go to a local flu shot clinic if you are interested in getting a flu shot.
